Bedroom : Finding the healthiest, most comfortable mattress to sleep on

The mattress you sleep on can have a profound effect on the quality of your life. Not just whilst you’re asleep, but as you work and play throughout the day. Without a good night’s sleep you simply won’t function as well as you can and persistent poor sleep will have terrible long term implications for your health – high blood pressure, memory loss and depression are just some of the conditions linked to poor or insufficient sleep.

So it makes profound sense to make sure that you get the right mattress. But what is the right mattress for you and how do you choose? If you haven’t had to think about buying a mattress for some time then you may be surprised at how much high technology goes into mattresses. The traditional simple spring mattresses of earlier generations has long been surpassed by ultra sophisticated materials and construction using space age techniques pioneered for NASA. Here’s a check list to decide which mattress is right for you. First consider your budget. Unfortunately you do mostly get what you pay for when buying mattresses – a cheap mattress probably means a poor experience. So this is an item of expenditure where you should try to allocate what you can reasonably afford rather than look to cut corners. On the bright side a good memory foam mattress will last for up to 20 years, so the cost per day actually works out to be only a few cents. Which is very good value.

Bedroom : How to create that “hotel bed” feeling at home

What is it about hotel beds that makes them feel so different from our own beds? Can we really get that hotel bed feeling in our own bedrooms? Of course! It is just a matter of keeping it simple and finding what works for you.

#1. Purchase the most comfortable bed you can afford. When looking for a new mattress, try to buy something that will last for years and feel comfortable. Many of the hotel beds are now pillow tops, with an extra layer of cushion on top of the mattress itself. If you can’t afford a new bed, you can purchase your own feather bed that will lay on top of your current mattress. Not all feather beds are made from feathers, so purchase what you like and lay it across the top of the mattress and you’ll instantly feel the difference.

#2. Headboards are essential. Not everyone has a headboard on their bed, but headboards give a sense of importance to the bed and make it look structurally finished. You can buy inexpensive headboards from garage sales, antique stores or even new in catalogs. Refinish them in they need some work or even cover them in fabric that matches your room for a really regal look. Fasten the headboard so that it is sturdy and you’ll have the look and structure that make the hotel bed really stand out.

Home Interior : Interior decorating tips for the home

by Kathleen Hesketh

When faced with the empty space between four walls, it is difficult to know where to start an interior decorating project. An empty room is similar to a blank canvas, but like the painter who stares at the matte white surface, a designer needs to know what they want to create. It’s the same for any homeowner trying to start a room. Often people begin by choosing a piece of furniture they like, only to discover upon delivery that it is too

traditional, too contemporary, or not at all what they wanted for their interior decorating design. Without a clear idea of the type of room they want to develop, a homeowner ends up with a complicated mix of objects, lamenting the loss of the masterpiece they had hoped to create.

As any artist will tell you, creating a masterpiece takes time and some inspiration. Creating an interior requires the same. Art is a means to express a certain emotion. Rooms are decorated to inspire a certain feel. Isolating this is the first step in turning an empty room into a living work of art. The feel can be many things. People often want their main living spaces to feel warm and inviting or cool and sophisticated. The feel a room is intended to inspire determines what elements will go into it.

Home and Garden : Lawn-less yard solutions

by Pamela Kay

Keeping a lawn lush and green is often time-consuming and expensive, especially if you have a large yard or live in an area that is too dry for a traditional lawn, has soil that’s too poor or where water isn’t plentiful. Many homeowners are shifting away from a traditional lawn and searching for lawn-less yard solutions that are both appealing and user friendly like the following.

*European Style Courtyard

Using a tall, solid privacy fence with a door-type gate for entrance allows you to turn even your front yard into a private family oasis. Brick or paving stones make an excellent floor where mosses thrive between the cracks.

You can leave any existing trees for shade and simply pave around them. Add planters or shrubs around the perimeter, a small fountain or pond and a few comfortable benches to turn an unused yard into a fun space. View one here: http://www.theapothecaryhouse. net/images/the%20courtyard.jpg

*Rock Gardens

There’s something so peaceful about a rock garden. Large boulders or raised rolling berms covered in large rocks create a stunning display when planted with trailing plants and drought tolerant flowers. A small patch of grass at the edge invites you to sit and dream.
